After years of watching Say Yes to the Dress, I couldn't wait for my "Say yes to the Dress" moment. I didn't expect it to be the first bridal shop and the very first Dress I tried! I'm a very picky person about everything in life! I am terrible about making decisions typically; I do all my research before making any moves, like cost comparison and making a list of pros and cons. That didn't happen at all! When the Dress was handed to me, I had an "Oh wow" in awe. I had never held such a beautiful dress before; the details were perfect. I felt so beautiful trying it on, which excited me for the rest of the dresses, especially since I had a two-hour appointment. Who doesn't love feeling beautiful and looking like a princess? I tried several dresses, but none compared to the first one. The next Dress was a strapless pearl beaded dress; it was beautiful but made me look broad and not confident. What I liked was the fabric, how it sparkles, and the plunge in the front but not for my wedding, maybe a ballet or a gala. The following style was a fitted mermaid dress with off-the-shoulder straps. I wasn't a fan of how I looked, we tried adding an overskirt, but it was too old fashion style for me. It gave me Marilyn Monro vibes. Thankfully we went away from that style, and my stylist started understanding my body shape better. The fourth Dress could be strapless or have sleeves with a heart-shaped neckline. It was a perfect mix between the first two dresses, then adding the sleeves; I loved it, but it didn't give me the wow factor. The next Dress was the same as the first but not as detailed. I tried more dresses with sleeves; I almost went with one of the sliced dresses but then remembered I'm getting married in April. I probably won't want sleeves in this Texas weather! Nothing gave me the I'm a bride feeling; after an hour, I decided to try the first Dress again and just knew it was the one. It was everything I wanted, and I had no idea that was what I was looking for. Word of advice, trust your stylist. They understand what your looking for even if you don't. At first, I felt like I deprived myself of the joy of shopping for wedding dresses because I went with my first choice, which is 100% unlike me. Well, that was until my dresses arrived, and I got to try them on! It's wild the feeling you get closer to the wedding, especially the serial feeling when everything starts to arrive, be finalized, and fall into place. The day is just right around the corner. No more planning and dreaming. It's happened. Well, at least that is what it felt like walking into the dress shop to pick up my Dress. When picking up your Dress, it's always recommended to try it on, ensure nothing got needed in transit, and get an idea of what alterations you might need. I even brought my ceremony shoes to see if they matched my Dress. Of course, my Dress needs alterations, but I made the right decision and am so excited to wear it on my wedding day! For the most part, I needed my straps taken in. Even with my shoes, it was still a tad long, so we'll need to hem the Dress, and we'll have to add the bustle. The bridal shop I ordered my Dress from doesn't have an on-site alterations person, but they do have someone they recommended. With a wedding dress in hand and a list of preferred wedding dress alterations list and we went on our way. I contacted the two local shops I could visit, and what they quoted gave me panic attacks. One thing I've learned about myself during this wedding process is that I suffer from money guilt. I was already feeling bad about falling in love with a dress at the top of my budget, but when I got the emails saying anywhere between $750 to $1.250, and it's due before the first fitting, well, that's a second dress, no way I could afford that! I only budgeted $500. After the weekend of calling around and not getting any answers, I was just about ready to sell my Dress. Most alterations want 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding, we'll have four weeks till the marriage, and that's part of the reason it costs so much. I called my mother, who reminded me I was just being dramatic and that it was not as big of a deal as I thought. After maybe 20 minutes, my mom found someone in our budget willing to look at my Dress and see if they could alter it. Key things to remember when you go for your dress fitting make sure you are wearing your wedding shoes, probably the ones you're going to do your first dance to. They alter your Dress to match your shoes; I'll wear my heels for the ceremony, pictures, and first dance. Once sunset pictures are over, I'm putting on my wedding Crocs to be comfortable and dance the night away! Thankfully a family friend alternated my Dress, and she is a fantastic designer! My straps were too long, but she said that was an easy fix. The hard part was figuring out where to Hem it. She had me walk around the house in the Dress to see where it was caught. I was thrilled that the satin layer was captured and not the tool. The very top layer is long, but I didn't want to have the Dress reconstructed when it seems to flare out when I walk, and I'm not tripping over it; no reason to take apart the bottom of the Dress. The bustle was also fun to figure out. Instead of the most common bustle, my train was way too long, and we added a wrist strap. I'm not lying when I say I have never felt more like a diva in my entire life! It took two weeks, and I'm back in my wedding dress. The straps fit perfectly, and I didn't trip when I walked around in my wedding shoes. I can't lie; I did not want to remove my dress. I fell in love with it all over again, and my wedding excitement continued growing! Before I knew it, it was the day of the wedding! Getting ready with my family and friend was so fun and memorable. I can't express enough gratitude to everyone who made it so special. Not only did I have the perfect dress but the accessories made all the difference in the world. I was going to use a headpiece from my best friend's wedding, but we all forgot to grab it! Thankfully I bought two flower girl crowns and ended up just wearing that. My niece loved that we matched, and I was so grateful. The second would be my neckless. I developed a pearl obsession during my planning process, so my mom let me wear her great-grandmother's pearls ( they are over 100 years old). They matched the color of my dress perfectly, and my older sister wore them at her wedding. That wasn't the only piece of her wedding day I incorporated; I also used her veil, which was used in my cousin's wedding. With all the positive marriages before mine, I knew it held nothing but good energy and made the wedding day even more meaningful. My dress was so big that I had to ride in a golf cart to the ceremony spot. Walking down the aisle, I thought I would be nervous, but I was excited to see Grant. He looked terrific, and so did the wedding party. We made it through pictures before I gave up on the heels and ended up doing the first dance barefoot! Then I put my Crocs on after we eat. Dancing in the dress was easier without shoes, and I felt like a princess the whole night. I'm so glad I got a second I wore it as long as possible! After the Wedding, I cleaned my dress professionally and ordered a preserver kit from Amazon. For now, its safety is tucked away until our first anniversary when well get dressed up again, have an adventure/anniversary photo shoot, and go out to dinner. Who says it's only meant to be worn once? Finding the perfect wedding dress is a personal and transformative experience. - Life Update
Well, Time has flown by! I have a new job, our church is growing, which leads us to be more involved, which we have enjoyed, and we got married with everything going on; I've realized that although I have been writing blog posts, I have not been posting! Before I post what I've been working on, I y'all a life update. I went back to work in a Hair Salon and currently going through management training with the company. As much as I enjoyed being home with our cats and planning the wedding, I missed growing others and helping small businesses achieve their goals. Now the house doesn't stay clean all the Time anymore, but I'm happy to be back at work and getting the opportunity to grow more as a leader in the hair Industry. Now I know that being in this type of salon is temporary, not my long-term goal. I feel like God put me at the location to make a difference not just in my coworkers' lives but in the lives of people in my Area walking into the store. We all know God works in Mysterious ways, and I fully believe in following the path he has set before us. Since I started with this, I've had the opportunity to see God's work in people's lives firsthand. The number of people who sat in my chair over the last two months seeking God, asking me questions about Christ, and wanting to grow their relationship with Christ has been truly unique. Religion is typically a topic you avoid in the hair industry, just like politics or anything negative. Everyone has different beliefs, and it defiantly not my or anyone else place to judge or tell people what they believe is wrong. Sometimes religion is a sore topic for people and becomes arguments about their beliefs. My husband and I are nondenominational, but I can appreciate all religions! Understanding others' views and opinions further encourages them to live their best lives than trying to debate beliefs or change anyone's mind. I've been in the hair industry for a decade now, and I've had moments where guests pray for me to find Christ because they assume I don't know Christ. After all, I'm in the hair industry. Times like that takes everything in me not to get upset and correct them on their judgmental behavior. Over the years, I learned that if they bring up religion first, I can be honest with the moments I've witnessed or try to keep the peace and let them educate me. The last two months have been nothing like that; I have at least five guests a day in my chair talking about how great God is and how he's changed their lives. I also have had some say they are new to Christianity and ask me questions I can help answer. I have been able to preach, pray, educate, and lead more to God in the last two months than in this industry in the previous decade. I enjoy where I am because it's more than just a service for some of them. It is a life-Growing experience that they never knew they needed. I will give even a few who have. Their requests become regular, and through the whole haircut, they get to talk about their walk with Christ through the entire haircut. It has become one of my favorite parts of my day and helps encourage me to grow in my relationship with Christ. Just like at work, God has been working his magic on us at our small church in a little town called Peaster by growing the congregation and leading us to become more involved with our church. Recently, our pianist has taken a step back for now. Being part of worship ministry can be very demanding sometimes, and sometimes we all need a break for our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. When you are overwhelmed, worn down, or even feel defeated, absorbing worship music and listening to the word of God is the best way to heal, no matter where you're at in life. To help give her a break, I needed to step out of the tech booth and onto the stage to give her a break. I hadn't played piano in years. My husband bought me a piano a few months ago because I had missed it and wanted to play again for fun. Little did I know God was preparing me to play for the church and along with the praise team. I usually just run sound and make sure everyone looks, sounds, and plays well. Getting the opportunity to use my talent for the lord and Watching the team and the church grow is an extraordinary experience that is hard to explain. I might not be able to explain the full extent of joy that he has brought us, but I can encourage you to find joy in your own life. Yes, I said my HUSBAND, we are officially married!! That's right, I am now officially Mrs. Cardona! which means no more planning or stressing about the wedding, thank the lord! I was not the biggest fan of planning, but it was completely worth it. We got married in April, and the weather stayed nice; some things messed up and went wrong, but it was perfect at the end of the day. We had the wedding of our dreams and are happily married. We need to figure out our next big move in life, but for now, we are enjoying our relationship, our marriage, and growing in Christ. - Italian Chicken Over Lemony Spaghetti
Cooking together is one of our favorite date night activities, regardless of the size of the kitchen. Despite our lack of cooking skills initially, we've managed to make it work and have a great time doing so. We started using Hello Fresh and gradually expanded our repertoire with recipes from the internet, cookbooks, and our loved ones. As time passed, we compiled a recipe book of meals we enjoyed and modified to our liking. The best part of cooking together is creating new dishes and experimenting with flavors. Now, we want to share our favorite recipes, starting with the meal we make most often - a quick and delicious chicken spaghetti dish for pasta lovers. Italian Chicken Over Lemony Spaghetti with Zucchini & Chilli Flakes Ingredients needed: 8 oz spaghetti One large or two small zucchini Two cloves garlic, minced One lemon, zested and quartered Two boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 pound total) One tablespoon Italian seasoning Salt and pepper Olive oil 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (more or less to taste) 1/4 cup sour cream One tablespoon unsalted butter 1/2 cup grated or shredded Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving 1 cup chicken or vegetable stock (or 1 cup water + 1 teaspoon chicken or vegetable bouillon) Note: Italian seasoning typically contains a blend of dried herbs such as basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary. If you don't have Italian seasoning, you can use a combination of these herbs instead. For the Parmesan cheese, grated and shredded are both suitable options. If using a block of Parmesan cheese, you can grate or shred it yourself. As for the chili flakes, you can adjust the amount to your liking depending on how spicy you prefer your dish. Tools Needed: Large Pan Large Pot Zester Stainer Paper Towels Expected time: 5 Min prep & 30 min cook time. 750 calories Instructions: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. While waiting for the water to boil, prepare the vegetables: wash and dry the zucchini, trim the ends, cut it into quarters lengthwise, then crosswise into ½-inch-thick pieces. Peel and mince the garlic. Zest the lemon and cut it into quarters. Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti and cook it until al dente, stirring occasionally. This should take around 9-11 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the spaghetti. Keep the pot nearby for step 5. While the spaghetti is cooking, heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large, preferably nonstick, pan over medium-high heat. Add the zucchini and cook it until browned and softened, stirring occasionally, for 4-6 minutes—season with salt and pepper. Turn off the heat and transfer the zucchini to a plate. Wipe out the pan. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and season it with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Once the zucchini is done, heat a large drizzle of oil in the same pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken until browned and cooked, 3-5 minutes per side. Turn off the heat and transfer the chicken to a cutting board to rest. Once it's cool enough to handle, slice the chicken crosswise. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in the pot used for spaghetti over medium-high heat to make the sauce. Add the garlic, half of the lemon zest and a pinch of chili flakes. Cook, stirring, until fragrant, for 20-30 seconds. Stir in ½ cup of reserved pasta cooking water (or ¾ cup for four servings), stock concentrate, and juice from two lemon wedges (four wedges for 4). Simmer until thickened, for 1-2 minutes. Turn off the heat. Add the drained spaghetti, zucchini, sour cream, and butter to the pot with the sauce. Toss to coat. Add half of the Parmesan and season with salt and pepper. If needed, stir in more reserved pasta cooking water a splash until the spaghetti is coated in a creamy sauce. Divide the pasta between bowls. If desired, top with the chicken, remaining Parmesan, lemon zest, and a pinch of chili flakes. Serve with any remaining lemon wedges on the side. Enjoy! Ever wake up one day, and do something drastic without any idea what's next or where you go from there? Over the past week, my whole world changed, and as time passed, I realized it was for the best. I had been working at a company I loved for the past five and a half years, but one day, I woke up feeling miserable and couldn't shake it off. My fiancé and I went to church, but I hated being there the whole time, which was sad because I usually love volunteering my time to the church and worshiping God. After listening to the sermon, I felt I was being called to leave my job and start a new chapter. I don't do well with change, but I turned in my notice by Tuesday, and Wednesday was my last day. It was wild, but I knew it was for the best for myself and my mental health. In two months, I am getting married to the love of my life! We have been together for six years and couldn't be more excited about this next journey together. I'm so grateful to have a fiancé who supports me even though I impulsively quit my career. Now that I have free time, I decided to document my journey. I'm not sure where life will take us, but I know it will be interesting. This experience has taught me that sometimes, you need to make significant changes to prioritize your well-being and happiness. I'm excited to see what the future holds.
